Great English Short Stories

A chronologically-arranged collection of 82 British short stories, novellas, and (occasionally, in the early part) self- contained novel excerpts, ranging in date from the late 1500s to the 1920s. (Most are from the 19th and early 20th centuries.) The editors sought both to illustrate the historical development of British short fiction (for those interested), and to provide enjoyable reading for the general public.
