The Children's Own Readers, Book Five

Did you notice the title of this reader? It is one of a number of books called The Children's Own Readers. Do you wonder why the books were given this name? This is the reason: children all over the United States helped in the making of these books. Thousands of children let the authors know what questions they would like best to have answered. After the questions were answered in story form they were printed in a book, together with other interesting selections. Then children from the North, from the South, from the East, and from the West read the books and decided which stories they liked best and which they liked least.
